I am going bankrupt in a month!

Does this mean I would find it impossible to Privately rent, as I know they do a credit check?

bankruptcy can be a trying time

it happened to me it was tough but all in all it was the best thing that could have happened

be careful about your bank--for instance if they close your account without informing you--you have the right to sue them for it

i know it might seem like things are so tough you cant get through but beleive me it will all work out ok
what's their obligations to any overdraft of the current account then jacobite - just interested for someone I know.
if you are overdrawn that might be different----but they still by law cannot close the account without notice----some banks try to do this

when bankrupt cash is king so money under the mattress is no joke---and lets face it the interest banks pay out you are just as well
The bankruptcy will be on your credit files for 6 years so you are almost certain to fail any credit check. A possible exception is if you have enough money to pay up front the deposit and a large amount of rent (say 6 - 12 months), but of course if you had that sort of money you wouldn't need to go bankrupt would you?

You may well find you are asked to provide a guarantor (i.e. someone who will pass a credit check & who undertakes to pay the rent if you fail to do so). If you don't know anyone who would do that then you would very likely be told you couldn't be accepted as a tenant. But, as already said, things may be different if you can find a landlord who you can approach direct.
you would find it difficult to rent privately, not only that they may ask for several months worth of rent up front and a deposit. you could have to find up to £5000 just to get through the door!

I cant see how you would buy your council property if you are about to be made bankrupt, stay where you are, work on your bills, its the only sensible way.
