This is for a dissertation, looking at consumer trends and perception towards discount stores. I'm researching into the reason why people chose to shop at discount stores over all other highstreet shops, and whether or not the BRAND affects their decision?

Thank you to all who participated so far..
hmm, your diss isn't going to look all that professional when you say "5 random people off the internet said...."
y1a1z1 may just be doing preliminary research, please give her a chance.

No, brand really doesn't come into it with me. I'm on a limited budget, and if i see somewhere that offers me more of a product, or products, for less money, i'll shop there.

Bedknobs - you have to have your marketin/statistician head on.

On a random sample questioned over the internet:

20% Said personal choice 60% said price and 20% said how professional is this?

Whats a discount shop TK max/ Matalan?

you're right there 'bednobs' but i'm just getting some general views across from people, just idea building.. nothing solid.
Depending on where you are, society is always gonna have an element of those better off than others, so those not so well off may buy from the cheaper outlets. Me personally, I may try something once from such a place, and I may even like it, but generally I find you get what you pay for - rubbish
I think tkmaxx are quite expensive

1)I would use discount store most of the time
2)money is the primary reason
3)cost
it depends where you go for what posty, some stuff I will buy at a proper store, other things I will buy at a discount store

no
yes
ifs the product i want is available and is overall cheaper at that store then i'll buy it from there - by which i mean i walk through a retail park each day on my way to from work if the same product is av in a store in town cheaper but will cost me more in time and money to get there back, then i'll pay the higher price at the supermarket
Ebay gets me - it must take all the fun out of shopping

No
I don't pick them over other stores but just browse around in them and if anything catches my eye that I think is good value and I need it then I buy it.

thanks people some good views coming across! and to 'davethedog' yes TK Max and Matalan can be examples of discounted stores, but i think i will base my research on stores such "poundland and 99p stores" I've seen in many town centres there has been a major rise in these types of discount stores, and was just wondering if it's to do with consumer trends?
