I recently returned from visiting my mother in the Czech Republic and my sister told me of a story a pensioner who called local radio. He cherished his enormous lettuces in his greenhouse and popped out leaving the door for his chickens to demolish all. Realising he is in big trouble with his wife he set out in old pioneer (scooter) without any papers or licence to buy more. He realised he will have to negotiate 4 killometers hill. The police were waiting for him and not having any papers issued a penalty for 1000 Korunas. In completing the paperwork the pensioner put in the reason "the death of a lettuce". We can not put that down, they were kind to him and told him the penalty is reduced to 500 Korunas providing he will walk the hill pushing the scooter. He wondered if they would wait for him at the top of the hill so he did not risk it and sure enough they were there. He was lucky not not with the lettuce!
