Not sure if this is the right category to put this in but here goes :
Previous tenants had sky fitted but had to move out 5 months later. They have supplied a letter daying that the sky has been transferred to their new home but nothing about the BT line that they had to have installed in able for them to have the Sky box. Now I know they need to have a BT line for at least one year when having Sky how do I go about finding out if the landline has been disconnected/transferred? I have tried to ring BT but because I am not the name on the contract they won't tell me die to data protection.
Does anyone know of a more 'helpful' BT phone number/dept I can ask or will I need to get an engineer out to check the line. And no - I do not know the actual 'number' of the line so I cannot ring it to check it.
LOl - unfortunately I actually don't have a landline or land phone :-( Stopped using landliens 3 tears ago so thought hell to that - why pay the rental. Dumped all the phones and the only ones I have access to are work ones which run off a switchboard so don't work in domestic situations.
Could you not ring your mobile from the BT phone then you would have the line number, assuming it's not exdirectory.
Or just tell you're the new tenant and wish to take over the line.
So if you don't use landlines, why are you bothered whether it works or not? Its obviously not in your name so you won't be billed for it. Wouldn't worry about..
Yup I know I could just leave it and hope there are no outstanding charges but they were only there 5 months and already have had 3 bailiffs letters. No other 'unitility' bills are unpaid as they are all in my name and paid to me.
Will have a bash at BT again. Tho buying that el'cheapo phone might be just the answer. Brilliant.
