Unfortunately the country can no longer afford the sort of pension schemes we have at the moment... based as they were on much shorter life expectancies and with fewer people taking the early retirement option. I do believe some not all public sector jobs should have an earlier retirement option though as service users do not benefit when providers are burnt out ot no longer physically up to the challenges but possibly 60 rather than the 50-55 we have now. It will still be a very good plan just not the really exceptional one it is now.

I agree with you rowan. I am not in the public sector and luckily I will be able to work at home tomorrow as the kids school is closed. I have already had my own pension decemated and I didn't see the public sector coming out to support me. My OH is in the public sector and has no intention of striking. He is probably one of the worst hit as he is just above the level where the cuts will come but has the least amount of income to pay for it. He however doesn't think that what has been offered is that bad compared to other workers.
