Car Insurance
8 Answers
Last year the law on car insurance was altered so that every car parked off road & on your drive must be insured. We have a situation whereby my daughter is having a change of car ( low mileage 2nd hand car) & instead of trading her present car, keeping it on the drive for her 25 year old son who is taking his road test in March. I am aware that we can S.O.R.N the car until it can be insured in his name but the problem is my daughter & husband are hoping to move house shortly, how can they then drive the car to their new premises?
I am hoping there is someone on A/B who can come up with an answer.

The new house was several miles away along a main road with cameras it would have been picked up instantly as SORN , if it had been just around the same town I would have chanced driving it.

Do you have a car with a tow bar?

Just to add if you can borrow some trade plates you can just put them on the car and drive it, they are are taxed for any car they are on. Then get someone with fully comp insurance that includes driving other cars to drive it.
The owner can't drive it as 'driving other cars' only applies to cars owned by someone else. I once looked at temporary insurance but it was hideously expensive, cheaper to insure for a year and then cancel the policy They wanted £180 for 1 week against £250 for a year !

I would not chance taking a car out without insurance or with a SORN on it.
I collected a brand new car from the garage and changed the insurance over by phone.
It was insured but not showing on the Motor Insurance Database at that point.
A police car with an ANPR camara stopped me but things were settled over the phone.
