i'm a student and i live with 4 others.

we got a water bill through but because of various things, i didn't pay it on time and now the bill (in my housemates name.. even though it should be in all our names)) has occurred a CCJ . is there any way i can get the name that the CCJ is in changed to mine? my housemate stands to lose her job and won't be able to emigrate because of my lack of payment.

You could try for a set aside on the basis that the bill was yours and not hers. She needs to get the form from her local court and explain why she isn't resposible for the bill. She could say she had left the house and wrote to the water company to remove her name ( small lie) and if you write to say you are responsible and pay the bill nobody gets hurt.
As Harley mentioned, she can make an application to get theis CCJ set aside on the grounds that it is not her that owes the money - This in effect puts you both in the position where you were before the judgement was put in place - if you can swing this (it is at the court's discretion!) you may the put your hand up so that they may pursue you (bare in mind that a CCJ will not be shown if it is paid within 1 month of being issued - this goes for the second time round too!)

Good luck.
