Keep getting threatening letters from Tesco loans
What is the best course of action to take with this company. I took out a personal loan two years ago. Approximately two months I paid off the full amount. I keep getting threatening letters and bills demanding further payments. I have spoken to eight people at the company all of whom have checked on the payment and have accepted that this is the case, yet I still get these threatening letters, I have even sent a my bank statement highlighting the actual settlement payment to Tesco, but they still keep sending me demanding letters. Who is the best person to complain to in this situation, I did consider the financial ombudsman, should or could I take legal action against these idiots?

As grffin says contact Tesco Bank (send recorded delivery letter and keep a copy) detailing the number of times you have contacted them and that the loan has been repaid and ask them to send you a final response letter as they seem incapable of dealing with your telephone complaints, that you may take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman this will give you the response you need. The FO will not deal with you until you have a final response letter from Tesco and they will not send one without a check which will reveal your telephone complaints and that the loan has been repaid.
You need to send a simple letter to the department concerned at Tesco (keep a copy) stating you request on paper 'proof' of the amount outstanding - if they have no proof then this will rest your case, also insist all correspondence is via written letter only (not telephone) I had very similar with a broadband company who after 4 months of transferring to another provider, they threatened me with legal action to reclaim alleged money I owed them. I sent my letter asking for proof - and have not heard any response since from them. Funny that.
