I told several of the people I worked with nearly 40 years ago that they would be poor in retirement if they did not join the company pension scheme.
Nobody listened to me.
Why are they moaning now that I have got a much better standard of living than them?.

Mary, why do you worry about others so much.

You have a good life in Birmingham surrounded by your family and have a secure future through your forward planning.

What others do as long as it has no impact on you should not be of concern to you.
I'm not sure that when I retire I'll still be in touch with so many people I worked with 40 years ago, especially as you have moved to Birmingham now.

This brings to mind of some other cases on AB of jealousy over pension terms. eg

It's a growing problem, it seems, similar to that of gold diggers being after widows' money

I'm sure he/she will be back, EcclesCake in one form or other. Although we can spot this poster a mile off, whatever name he/she uses, I have never reported any of the posts and I don't know why quite a few of his/her user names have been suspended or expunged completely while others remain.

Unfortunately, EC, the issue of people not providing for income in their later years is of concern to all taxpayers. People who have made no provision and who rely soley on the State pension receive huge amounts of additional support, funded by taxpayers. This additional support is not available to those who have been a bit prudent so their reward for such prudence is effectively a far lower State Pension. This is blatently unfair.
New Judge I quite agree with you, however, my tongue was firmly in my cheek when I replied to London. She had another thread that was rather condescending and I felt that this one was heading in the same direction.
