Broke my back last year at work in an accident I now work part time 12 hours a week because I can't do much work but I don't claim anything apart from housing benefits. I'm utterly broke as suffering I've had three ops this year with further more this month can I be entitled to DA? If so how much do you get a week and what do you need to apply for it?

There is a disability element where if you jave a disability which means you have to work reduced hours you are entitled to help. I'm not sure of the minimum working hours but it's worth having a look. There's a calculator on the tax credits website which will tell you if you are entitked and roughly how much you'll get.

You should at least be getting employment support allowance (ESA). Have a word with the Welfare Rights Officer. Your local council will have the number. Also try for DLA. I broke my back 11 yrs ago but fortunately I was insured against loss of earnings at the time. As boxtops says, have you investigated a claim against the firm you work for? There are people out there who can help you but getting through to the right people can be a very frustrating experience, especially when you are in pain, low in spirit and lets face it depressed. I know I have the T shirt as they say. Good luck lou. dtc
DLA is (currently) given because people have problems and need help from someone else with either mobility or personal care. Can you wash and dress yourself? get on and off the toilet yourself? cook for yourself? can you walk 25 meters? If the answers are yes, you will be unlikely to qualify, but no harm in trying
You can be able to walk that distance bednobs, but doing so has to cause severe discomfort or pain or take an abnormally long time to qualify for the mobility part of DLA. If you need some help around the home (for example with cooking or cleaning) you may be awarded the lower rate for care component.
I've literally just got in from seeing our local Citizens Advice Bureau regarding filling in a form for the Disability Living allowance. They have pointed out lots of places to look for help -

Also you can go and see the staff at your local CAB and you can also ring the Benefits Helpline for assistance. You should also ring the DWP and request the forms for DLA as they can then backdate any claim to the date you requested the pack. Hope this helps.

I can wash and dress myself ect. I have problems driving cant sit for longer than 10 minutes and getting in and out of bed can't have sex too much either as it's agony with it. Currently sueing but its been a year now with little progress and no positive outlook that I will win. I'm on £47 a week housing benefits which doesn't even cover the rent on my tiny 1 bed flat so I'll be out of my home by the end of the month.
