I have down sized to a smaller property and have been here for 42 days and have used 46 units of gas and 235 units of electricity. This is the first time I have had a supply which I have to pay for. My first question is:
Do you think that the amounts used are low?
How much shall I set the levels for the direct debit?
I was thinking £50 PCM for gas and £35 for electricity.

your supplier will set the payments after you answer their questions..how many live there..how many rooms ..how many in house etc etc
Are the amounts low? Well, they'll be low for some people and high for others. It really does depend on individual circumstances - not least being what each fuel is being used for, which you don't mention.
And, as above, your supplier(s) will have definite ideas regarding direct debit amounts...
As well as depending on your consumption another key factor will be which supplier and tariff you have- there can be a range of around 20% between the highest and lowest DD tariffs on the market.
A total of £85 a month is probably on the low side unless you have a very competitive tariff, a small property with few occupants, good insulation and you are very careful with fuel usage
Beware of your gas calculation.

Most gas meters measure cubic metres of gas used and you need to multiply this by about eleven to convert the measurement to KwH.
