I have recently been a victim of identity fraud in which a number of loans and phone contracts were opened in my name. Once I had knowledge of what had happened I immediately contacted my bank, the police and a number of credit agencies. I have a student account with barclays and after reporting the issue to barlcays I had recieved no contact whatsoever from them and had to keep phoning them on a weekly basis to find what was going on. I was told that they were looking into closing my account but then told I was that there was nothing to show that they were not looking into closing my account . After phoning a number of times to remove blocks on my account I was told my bank account would be closed due to me not meeting the criteria to hold a bank account at barlcays anymore after 3 months of not recieving anything from them is there anything I can do I also have made a complaint..
I would have thought they would have closed your account but perhaps moved it to a new account if the original had been compromised.
Did they explain which criterion/criteria you no longer met? Have you asked them?
You'd need to write a formal complaint letter before you go to the ombudsman but you also need to think about what you want- do you want a Barclays account, do you want an apology, do you want compensation...?
Have you tried opening an account elsewhere?
I have already complained to them they are reviewing it and my account closure is on hold. I asked what criteria I did not meet they would not disclose anything nothing has changed I'm still a student I need the account because my loan gets paid into it and wages. I recently lost my card and tried to draw money I have no I.D but they let do something else to pass I.D check but my account is overdrawn my rent is due and I need to pay bills . I am actually disgusted at the way I have been treated ever since I reported fraud to Barclays. I am planning to open an account with RBS in the meantime but I do not want the account closure to go ahead
You say your account is overdrawn and you have bills to pay. Is that because of bogus transactions or just the way you manage your finances. If the latter, that may be why they wanted to close your account. If the overdrawn status is your bank's fault then keep pressing them. Good luck
I have had an overdraft with Barclay's since I started uni I've extended twice with no problems whatsoever until I reported that I recently been a victim of identity fraud three months ago since then it has just been hell. There has been no contact from anyone I have had to press them to send me dispute form. They are only now sending me a closure letter because I called them and asked to remove the blocks on my account. It has been absolute joke they wont even send me a new card in the meantime
there have been cases of people spending lots of money, faking things, etc etc then claiming its all ID fraud and assuming it will all be wiped off their account and they get to keep the spoils .... and they will get off scot free
they are probably waiting for the police to finish their investigations.
