I have just seen a load of empty box's being sold on ebay .
£15 + £8 postage so £23 for an empty box, is there anyone stupid enough to buy it ?

Then the postage, it could be folded flat and sent as a large letter for 90p.

possibly, Eddie - I sell a lot on eBay and rarely have enough stout boxes to pack stuff in, so to OH's despair I collect any I see. However - not £15 for one box, no, £15 for a big pile of boxes is a possibility!

If the buyer has the lens that came inside the box for sale, but they don't have a box, then their lens becomes more valuable if they get a box for it

PS: As for P&P, this box is pretty thick itself ;-), so I doubt it will go as large letter folded or otherwise

I just sold a sigma lens the same as that in the box for £20.
A box adds slightly to the price but never an extra £23.

The seller does seem to be in the business of selling collectors items amongst other photographic equipment

You have no idea how much your lens would have sold for with a box, that's the nature of the suction

Added value for 'boxed'. Didn't know that happened with photographic, but it certainly does with toys and the principle is the same. Collectors may pay hundreds for an original box in mint condition for a toy, such as a rare Dinky, because a toy which is mint but without the box is worth so much less; the toy is then "mint and boxed". There's even a business in making replica, fake, boxes.

Fred I agree with toys but i sell photographic items all the time and the box mkes little diffrence. A toy is displayed in the box but a camera lens has to work , it's the condition that counts box or not.

I hate to be cynical but perhaps the seller is hoping that potential buyers might not notice that the item is empty?

Just checked his profile , he has sold at least 5 empty boxs last month .
Next time I get a boxed item I'll sell the item and the box seperately !
