You Brits call the straps that hold up your trousers braces (Yanks call them suspenders), so what do you call the orthodontic gear for straightening teeth (which Yanks call braces)?

Although they are an anchronism, here in the US the lady's stocking holder-uppers are called garters, which are attached to a garter belt...

sglazier, here in the US there are probably some socks somewhere that aren't elasticized, but when I was a child my father wore socks that had to be held up, and those devices were called garters as well... The woman's garter belt and stockings were certainly a source of fanticizing for young men of the period...

We call both braces theres never any confusion you wouldnt see kids wearing red elastic things in their mouths or men wearing metal wires to hold there trousers up lol.

So what do the yanks call what we girls hold up our stockings?? we call them suspenders, Stockings and suspenders always get the guys going lol.
