Looking For A Property To Rent But Bad Credit Rating
5 Answers
Hi all
I need to move ASAP but I have a really bad credit rating. My ex used to take out a lot of loans and payday loans either through my name or as me as a guarantor, and has really dropped my rating (My own fault I know).
I've lived with family most of my life therefore can not get references from previous landlords.
My question is where can I find somewhere that will let me rent either without a credit check.
Not many properties on gumtree as they must accept dss.
TIA

As well as this - contact someone like Experian and get your own credit check done. This'll show up all the credit your ex racked up in your name. You can then write back to Experian and show that you no longer have an association with that person (as long as you're not still liable for those debts) and they will check with the lender and then remove that from your rating. This worked for me - there were loads of entries on my credit report which had nothing directly to do with me but with my address or previous relationships. If I were you, that's where I'd start.
