How do you sort out a US investment once held by a UK resident who has now died ? The company or its registrars keep sending notes about interest earned, but the solicitor/executor can't or won't identify the investment, and nobody can find out how much it is worth. At a wild guess it might be around £900, but we simply can't get any sense out of the US agents/registrars (or whoever they are). They keep asking us for code numbers, customer numbers, registration numbers, and they say that all the numbers which have been sent so far ( all the numbers from all the old paperwork have been sent ) are insufficient.
Any ideas where the executor goes from here ?

I have had this. American registrars are quite incapable of understanding that the UK has a completely different system and , surprisingly, we don't have the IRS number which they are so fond of. I had to ring them up and painstakingly explain all this and then have them take me through which numbers that I had that were pertinent, and also use what information I had for them to find any numbers they wanted and which were in their records, of course. After all, the deceased had a holding; they can't deny that; and how would an American holding a million dollars worth proceed if he'd lost all numbers?
