If i was to split up with Mr b13thy and move out of the house we share, what would be the deal with things like house insurance - it doesn't run out until April 06. Am i allowed to cancel it, would this involve some sort of penalty ?

Most companies allow you to cancel and make a refund on a pro rata basis (ie if theres half a year left they'll give you half back). If you've made a claim in this year, forget it. Check the paperwork they sent you.
