A letter this morning from my bank about my credit card. It asked me to check recent items on my account. When I went to the bank's site there was no sign of the card account.
There are contact phone numbers on the letter. Would it be safe to use them to phone the bank?

Or should I phone the branch I use and ask them for a number to call about the card?
Phone your local branch, or better still pop in to see them if it's convenient
Do that Sandy ^^^^
phone the branch - best be safe than sorry
Phone your own branch or get a the number from another source.
Is there not a telephone number for customer services on the back of the credit card?
I didn't think calls go through to branches any more
I'd go to your branch, and show them the letter, then let them check in their system to see if the letter is genuine. IF it is, then get them to check their site, and explain the situation to them. Better to be safe than "skint", and won't affect your relationship to the bank.

Phew! Panic over. My bank put me through to the card security section and they said they'd stopped the card because of a suspicious transaction. A £20 top-up on an O2 PAYG mobile phone.
Thank you all for the prompt replies.
Was this your £20.00 top up or someone else using your card details ?
Question Author
It was mine, but it was the first time I'd ever used the card for the top-up.
Nice in this instance sandyRoe to see your bank is vigilant about these things.
Ahh! All's well then. Phew, don't do that again, Sandy, there's enough spam & scam going on without your bank NOT adding to it. :)
Panic over then !!
good to see your bank is 'on the ball' sandy,

In future I'll top-up the phone at the local newsagents.
Once again, thanks all.

'O my ducats!' I was thinking. Funny how that Bard had a suitable quote for every situation. :-)
That does seem incredibly keen of them. Good they monitor suspicious activity, but we can all buy a phone and top up for the first time !
Question Author
The chap at the security section said there seemed to be a particular problem with O2. Maybe the crooks make a small purchase first to test the water before going on to bigger and badder things.
that happened to me sandy - somebody from Oxford used my details for a £30 top-up. And about 8 years ago two difference instances.

One was £700 used to have a good time in the local hotel
One was £200 for motor parts that were delivered to a derelict house.

I was refunded but I go online everyday to doubly make sure all is where it should be.
