Pre-Paid Electric & Gas Cards..

A friend of mine who uses the above, told me today that British Gas want
£150 each to install a gas & electric meter, and a £500 & £300 deposit for each meter, to be paid back after one year.

Her credit is good and its her own house. Seems very unjust to me and are they allowed to do this?

sorry, but it's not clear...if she uses cards already, doesn't she have meters in the house?

I'm assuming the user wants to stop using the pre-pay, hence new meters and the need for deposits up front to prevent cutting & running/not paying bills.

She has pre-paid meters only ginger, they were there when she moved in apparently.

Sorry, me being dim....Does seem a lot for the deposit, but (as Fitz said) British Gas have to insure against unpaid bills...and this is their way of doing it.

I moved into a house with pre-pay meters a while ago and swapped to credit meters last year and my credit rating is rubbish ;-(

British Gas charged me a deposit of £150 for the gas meter and £109 for the electric and I got it back one year later.

They didn't charge me for the actual meter, are you sure she's got that right? It doesn't mention any charge here: https://www.britishgas.co.uk/HelpAndAdvice/LookUp/?SXI=1,CASE=926

No charges shown as you said cheeky, maybe they tell you when you phone them. How long ago did you change over?
