My daughter and I have 2,000 between us,which we have had for about five years, and I have a fixed rate savings account about to mature. We have won very little with the bonds, just a few £25's and one £50, but looking for somewhere to reinvest my savings account the rates are so abysmal I wonder about buying more bonds -any thoughts on this please? -rosy

Hi rosyposy, have a look at a you tube video with Quentin Wilson investing with storefirst.com.
ALL interest rates are rubbish.

If you are looking for a bit of excitement each month without losing your capital, then Premium Bonds are just as good (or bad) as any other investments.
I have hardly had anything from bonus bonds but my brother has had lots like 10000. 5000. And other amounts . Just the luck of the draw but as previously said interest rates are rubbish.
I agree with brinjal. I very rarely win but know someone who gets two,or three wins every month, he gets annoyed if he gets a month without anything! At least you won't lose anything by getting bonds and you can take them out whenever you like, and any win is a bonus.

sorry but I accidently must have > best answer before I read the reply, think you might have posted on the wrong question katburd.(unless you meant I had to hide money in a storage container :0)
Thank you all for your replies, guess it is a case of 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' so I think I will buy some bonds -rosy
I have approx £11k in a BS account and they informed me that from November it was switching to 0.10% interest, when I spoke to them they offered 1.25% (inflation currently at 2.4%).
I think I will add to my £15k of premium bonds which is currently achieving approx 2.3% in winnings (TAX FREE)
rosyposy, no I did not suggest you hide your money in a storage container, you have misunderstood me. I asked you to watch a You tube video with Quentin Willson , investing your money in store pods, have a look here

Sorry about that katburd, but I didn't get anything like that when I first tried your suggestion, much better link you posted now. It looks and sounds very interesting and something to think about. Thank you for setting me right-rosy
it's fine rosyposy, I did laugh at what you thought I had suggested, the video really sounds good , I'm thinking of going down that road too now.x
thanks for the link katburd, I will also follow this up.

you're welcome Mass_Hysteria, and thank you.
It all depends on whether you want a stated return on your money or prefer a raffle instead. These days you get next to nothing for hiring your money out anyway so I suppose if you like raffles you may as well gamble the return you would have otherwise got on the draw now, than any other time. Mind you, I don't know if the lottery gives even better odds.
It's the luck of the draw but interest is jack anyway, you may get lucky and get a decent prize. I have a load and I do pretty well compared with interest.
I Never won a bean with my premium bonds - but it's definitely worth considering, your capital is always here, and interest rates are rubbish at the moment.
We'll until you decide what to do pop them in premium bonds
But don't expect to win the big prizes this month as it's got my name on ;-))
