1) Book good hotel and flights for two people from 23/12/13 to 1/1/ 14, in Madeira

2)Book dogs into boarding kennel for that week ; in my case eight dogs

3) get told , on 13/12/13 by NHS that you must be in hospital for two days, being one night pre the investigating procedure and one day for the procedure viz Christmas Eve and the day before

4) Cancel hotel rooms and get instant refund

5) Flights non-refundable, but American Express Insurance indemnify in full

6) Cancel boarding kennel

Total saving £5,800.

Oh Fred! Could they not have moved the dates for the procedure?
Is this good or bad news, Fred?
Always look on the bright side of life eh, Fred? ;)

Good luck for the procedure itself and a speedy and painless recovery. Heck of a time to have an op though :(

8) Book alternative Holiday in Bracing Skegness (at a cost of £6k)??
For six grand you could buy a hotel in Skegness.

I appeared to have jaundice. Confirmed by GP. Regarded as essential that I have ultrasound and CT scans and see specialist. Specialist, a hepatologist, says must investigate bile ducts as soon as possible. Christmas Eve earliest date he can do two procedures to bile ducts and investigate cause.

Was going with 25 year-old daughter. Daughter takes this calmly but says " Oh, well, you now have more money to spend on Christmas here!" ;) Resolve to write new will asap, daughter now to receive £100 and the second best dog !
Serves you right Fred.........you can afford it..........should have gone Private.
Or possibly the whole of Skegness?
Bummer Fred, you'll miss the New Year's Eve fireworks...............

Sqad, I could always go private. But I don't think I'd have got better treatment; seen on Monday pm, ultrasound Tuesday, CT on Thursday morning, see specialist Thursday pm. The only gain would have been that the procedure might be a few days earlier in , say, the Cromwell, but then I would have paid out £X thousand plus the £5,800 for the holiday. The Cromwell knows how to charge; currently £200 or £300 for one, yes, one, 'bloods'. I have been there before !
By the way, sorry to hear of your probs, Fred. Hope all turns out OK.

you appeared to have jaundice.? are you showing signs of jaundice ?
I'm still laughing at "second best dog"...that really tickled me!
Glad it resolved so well financially for you, fred - that's quite impressive!
I like that too. Who's getting the best dog?
Hope everything goes well, Fred. You could always get ripped off next Christmas, instead x

Knowing the lawyers in this family, I suspect one of my barrister cousins, finding that they're not in the Will , will spitefully get the best dog declared a dependant relative and claim for her on the estate! Whether that happens or not, I'll give her to my son :)

Yes, anne, I have got jaundice . I'm scrapping the yellow bed linen in case I die in bed and nobody sees me in there. Could be ages finding me.
Such is life. I take it you have travel insurance?
yes fred dump the yellow, I hope you get a favourable diagnosis and treatment soon.
blimey, your jaundice is spilling out in your answers here. Sell the bile to China & save the bears. All the best ;)
Sending you good thoughts Fred.
