Any advice on ease and cheapness of obtaining a copy of a death certificates opposed to a decree absolute? From what I've gathered a copy of a decree absolute without the nisi, case number or even exact date is about £65. is getting a death certificate any easier (noting said person died abroad, was a foreign national but British resident).

Death certs are £9.25 but there is a bit of info here about a death abroad if it has been registered here.

Thanks Rocky, I'm now wondering if because this was US citizen who died in US it may not even have been registered in UK (even though person had resided here for over 25 years).

Just had a quick look on a US website (Wisconsin) and it seems you might need some identification to get a copy of a death cert and you probably won't have any of it. Other states I imagine will have their own rules.

Good luck.

I think you've helped me make up my mind, I'll fork out for the copy absolute.
Probably the best option given the circumstances. Can I be rude and ask if you're getting remarried, if so good luck :)
