My Son Is Using My Address To Obtain Credit
11 Answers
My son moved out over 3 years ago after a terrible family upset. He had a housing association flat originally which he has since been evicted from for non payment or rent and council tax. Now 3 years on we are receiving letters and baliff demands for all his debts. Our relationship broke down some time ago and we don't have anything to do with him. I have phoned every single company that have sent us letters and I have sent them letters explaining the situation but to no avail. He is still using our address although he is not on the electoral roll and hasnt been for 3 years. I am now being refused credit accounts as well. Does anybody know how I can stop this continuing?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Yes contact th epolice and tell them that he is making fraudulent applications for credit facilities. They will almost certainly tell you that it is nothing to do with them and you should contact the bank (that is their stock answer to anything to do with fraud). You will have to persist because it most certainly is a matter for them. Give them all the details you can, keep records of what you have told them and what they tell you and hope thay can catch the rotten sod before too long.
I found this page which may help.

Regulators of credit reference agencies usually not interested until you've had it out (letters) with
i) the lender(s) who refused you credit
ii) The credit reference agencies used by the various lenders.
I hope this helps.

You can file a Notice of Disassociation with Experian here:

Such information is often shared with the other two main credit referencing agencies but, to be sure, also contact CallCredit

and Equifax

Thanks for all your helpful advice. We've already been down the route with the Police and yes you guessed it they aren't interested although it IS fraud. Its a different story when they are knocking on our door to find him!!! I will look into the experian disassociation thing and see if that gives me any luck. Thank you so much though your comments are very valuable to a frazzled parent tearing her hair out!!!
We often get letters with our address but a different name from finance companies. Once had one from bailiffs. What we do now is return with "not at this address" Have you tried doing this with ALL your sons post...... simple but effective. As far as I was aware your credit rating is no longer based on your address but on named occupants. If he's not on the electoral register or has no utility bills in his name he is not deemed an occupant
