They appear to be a firm of high street solicitors based in Weybridge, Surrey. Although they claim to provide a typical wide range of often used legal services, it looks from the website that their key service is debt collection for commercial organisations. Thus they appear to be set up to find debtors, negotiate payments terms for repayment of debts using web-payment, and obtain CCJs from those that don't or won't pay.
Be cautious of acknowledging them without first seeking advice, especially if the debt is old.

Type "Bryan Carter" into the CAG search box at the top of the page and then join the forum. Bryan Carter are well-known to operate on the margins of what are legal and the guys on the forum will help you through challenging their communications be it by phone or letter. Never be intimidated by these idiots. They are well known to send standard "threatograms" which have no legal standing in law.
if the debt relates to a credit card, they have to prove that they are entitled to collect via a copy of the original credit agreement. If they cannot, they can take a hike, with the blessing of the law. Never lose any sleep over these idiots as they often work on behalf of dubious debt collection agencies who are invariably working via threats etc.
I suggest you join the forum. The guys will help you through any threats received.

Incidentally, never speak to these people on the phone. If they phone you say"in writing only" and put the phone down. They can often be very persuasive and are good at playing "good cop, bad cop" on the phone if you did phone them.
Furthermore, any threats of a "doorstep collector". If they arrive you can legally tell them to get lost.
They will threaten you withe everything from legal action to plagues of locusts if you allow them. Don't be a "cash cow" to an organization that has bought a debt for a few pounds and insists on recovering the full amount. Join the Consumer Action Forum.
