Well, it very much depends on where the village is! It might have electricity (mains or generator) or gas or oil. If you mean a more 'traditional' village, then they may well depend on fires and torches. But there's not consensus across a continent as varied and huge as Africa.
I would say that - for the most part - it would be the sun. Activities would be planned to maximise the use of natural light with bedtimes synchronised with daylight hours. Supplies of electricity are becoming more commonplace but can often be sporadic or only available for a couple of hours each day. From experience, kerosene (parrafin) lamps are quite common.
