I and my husband are Executors of my Mothers Will. She is 96 and now terminally ill. She has two stepdaughters who have treated her abonimably before and afterthought stepfathe' death 10 years ago. They haven't been in touch since. My Mother rewrote her will and wanted to leave them out of it (when she remarried the bulk of the joint estate came from her) but I suggest that she leave them a nominal £10,000 each which she reluctantly did. However, I know they have both moved house from a relative who has now died and I have no contact details. How would I go about contacting them when the time comes with only a vague idea of the area they live. One may have even changed her name?

I believe it is an executor's job to see fair play. Finding people is usually the job of probate companies. You could stick an advert in a local forum or newspaper if you like.

I intend to see fair play but it's not easy to find local papers when I'm not sure where they live!
That's kind of why you need probate researchers. "Fair play" in this context doesn't mean finding people-in legal terms that counts as "research".
