We are currently in discussions with our local council regarding the collection of bins. Now in line with health and safety regulations householders have to move their own bins to a central location to reduce the risk to employees of sustaining injuries from manual handling. Is this nation wide and what other services can you see the public becoming involved in
They used to be collected from the edge of our property We are now being asked to take them to the end of the Avenue. The now block the pavement - cover up the road sign and obstruct the tactile paving to help the visually impaired
We've put bins at the end of our street for ooo 10 years or so now? Can't expect bin men to come down a back street to retrieve them can we eh.....? Well apparently no, we cant, and they won't!
Same as f-f.
We were talking about this in the club the other night, when we all had the old galvanised bins. One guy would come round early with a set of wheels and take them down the drive to the road side the wagon would come round and two more guys would tip them into the truck after which a follow up guy would put them back and clean up any spillage. all by hand,no lifts,no elf and safety,no compaintss.
We put our bins out for collection but there is not a central collection point. I always thought it strange that the part of collection considered by the council to be a health & safety risk (dangerous) to the collectors is quite acceptable for the house owner to deal with.
What about the Health and Safety risk to us tonight when we have to trundle the bins out to the road in the pouring rain! We might catch our death of cold!
Not sure about cut backs tony but I won't be surprised. Like you paddywack I can remember the galvanised bins and the dust bin men use to hoist them up on their shoulders to move them now they are plastic and have wheels. My point exactly vulcan
This is what used to happen marval - now we have to take them to the central point. The council say that the collection team will collect the bin from anyone unable to move there own.
Kate,i believe that if you can prove your disability you can contact the council who "Flag" you and they will come down your drive and pick up and return your bin.
