I paid a bill by cheque and sent it by post, they say they have not received it: The bank has sent me photocopies of the cheque which has been franked by another bank. How can I find out which bank this has gone to, or the account? The amount (£20) has certainly gone from my account...not a huge sum, but can I trust the people who should have received it? Could one of their employees have paid it to their bank? This is an ongoing service I pay for, now I don't know what to do....advice please.

Send the photocopy of the franked cheque to the company and let THEM sort it out.

This happened to me once.
I did as VHG suggested and it was quickly sorted. The bank details on the 'processing stamp' proved that it had been cashed in a bank close to the business I had sent it to.

Case closed...
Do the bank not know where the cheque came to them from?
The cheque would have arrived "from" the bank where it had been paid in. Payee name/address is extraneous detail by that stage - sort code and account number is all they need.

Sounds a dodgy system. Someone forwards them a sort code and account number and the bank pays them your money regardless ?
