I've never really thought I'd have any PPI mis-sold but wanted to ask-if I had a Barclaycard all through 80s and 90s is it likely I'd have been sold PPI without realising?
I never understand how anyone could have paid for it without realising but even if you did realise you can now say with the benefit of hindsight it was misselleing. There's nothing to be lost by writing to Barclaycard and asking them.
This is what I was wondering FF. A work colleague had no idea, filled in the form and got £10K. I gather it was often included without people realising and that's part of the issue.
With a Credit Card it would have been paid monthly on your credit card when there was an outstanding balance, so you should know whether you had it or not.
Barclays have been writing to all customers who had PPI so, if you haven't received a letter the chances are that you never had it.
If in doubt, you can either submit a claim anyway:
https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/personal/make-a-ppi-complaint
or you could contact this firm:
http://www.theclaimsguys.co.uk/
They will check whether you had PPI and then give you the choice as to whether to claim yourself or to use their service. (I'd be prepared to bet that they'll try strongly to get you to claim through them but, as long as you stand your ground, you still don't have to).
I think that Buenchico is offering you excellent advice.
If you are in ANY doubt about whether you are entitled, follows his links, you have nothing to lose(except a possible refund if you don't)
Personally I doubt it, I recall back in the early 2,000s Barclaycard started offering insurance protection against being unable to payoff your card balance.
When they offered it to me for a small percentage of my monthly spend, I though to myself that they are on to a winner with this, because I pay off my balance in full each month. So I would be paying for insurance that would never pay-out.
Perhaps now, Barclays would agree with my analysis of this insurance scheme (or should I say, scam).
I thought we'd never paid out any PPI but it turned out we did get a small amount back. A friend of ours got a huge amount, enough for a car. Do as Chris suggests, what have you got to lose?
With a credit card you would not have made any payments for PPI if you paid it off every month. It only kicked in when there was an outstanding balance.
Buenchico,
I contacted these guys about a year ago, (I believed that I was due compensation from Barclays, and they confirmed it, but they sent me a huge multi-page form to fill in, and as I couldn't get to the end of it and work out what I was signing, I let it go). I contacted Barclays myself but got totally ignored.
So go with these guys, not knowing what I am signing up to, or just let the whole thing go??
