Care for a dementia patient and for a cancer patient who needs medication is not the same. The person who is employed to wash a patient is not qualified to administer medication.
That isn't true, naomi. But they are very different.
Pixie, In my experience it is true - and I have experience of both.
nhs (free) funding is entirely dependant on the care needs, nothing to do with diagnosis.
It is everything to do with the diagnosis, Bednobs...unless we have been lied to for ten years.
//The person who is employed to wash a patient is not qualified to administer medication// isn't true at all.
Something is wrong there, gness. Bednobs is right. As I said, we have had people moved from dementia to nursing depending on their needs.
yes you have (in your mum is getting assessed for continuing healthcare (nhs funding) if the person undetaking a full assessment is telling you that the diagnosis matters is a) you ARE being lied to and b) they are acting unlawfully
Can I ask, Bednobs...are you responsible for the welfare of a relative in care?
no
Pixie, common sense dictates that dispensing medication carries responsibility, but I won't argue with you. I know what I know.
Clearly not. I've been in care for over 23 years and administer medication- as do most carers.
unqualified carers can give medication (for example from a dosette box). A qualified nurse would be needed to give for example a controlled drud, or drugs by a route other than orally
Carers can give controlled drugs. Only qualified carers can give any drugs.
And some injections.
bednobs, since we're talking about cancer patients, my point precisely. Thank you.
were we talking about cancer patients? I was just talking in general terms
Me too- but answering naomi's second point.
i hope poor old lisdar didnt press "email me whe i have a reply" :)
