Hello,

Just wondering, does a priest/vicar get paid for conducting a funeral service, and if so, how much?

The probably do get 'paid' as it is their job but it is usual for the person who has arranged the funeral/cremation to put a few pounds in an envelope and pass discreetly to the priest or pastor - same goes with christenings/weddings etc.

I think there is a fixed fee charged by the undertaker, which is then passed on to the priest/vicar.

djprescott   is right  the undertaken takes care of most things, like notices in newspaper, and the priest which is a fixed fee, for funerals, weddings, and all this is accounted for in the undertakers bill
I believe that Church of England clergy charge a fixed fee, but that Roman Catholic priests do not, but invite contributions to parish funds.
my mum passed away last year and i was enquiring the same sort of question. the service and everything was really lovely and it didnt matter how much it cost really, just so we could have lay my mum to rest properly but we were surprised it didnt actually cost as much as we thought it would...... when i asked my dad he said such a percentage did go to the "church" and that the vicar was on about 40 - 50k a year. i was surprised but if u look at the car he has, the holidays he takes, the fact that he doesnt pay a full mortgage, then i realised this may in fact be realistic figures!
i have never known a priest/vicar refuse a "donation"  !!
well i make 65k a week and i feel happy about it when bodys come in every.
