Can't Pay, We'll Take It Away. What If You Got A Visit From The Bailiffs?

Had a situation once where High Court bailiffs came round a friends house to collect a £5k debt which she was told she owed to a property management company, saying she owed them fees for letting her property.
She had rented it for a year trusting them to look after it. They just deducted their 15% every month. Never did a single inspection and the tenants trashed the place.
She had them evicted just after the PMC had signed them for a further 6 months and they were claiming for non-payment of commission.
Long story short, she called me asking for help when the bailiffs came. She lives alone with 2 small children and they were threatening to take car and goods.
I paid debt for her. Stayed on good terms with the bailiffs and sent some friends round to collect the money back from the PMC.
Trust me. They paid up.

I enjoy that programme as much as the rest of you, but I'm always surprised by the reaction of the debtors who have a go at the bailiffs.
In the series, there are several instances of unfair and predatory claims that have been sanctioned by the High Court and the bailiffs are getting the brunt of the debtors anger.
If the case has been brought by a claimant who is using the system to fleece the debtor, then the debtor (or his pals) need to confront the claimant on HIS doorstep, not take it out on the bailiffs who have nothing to do with the original case.

Years ago I had two bailiffs turn up demanding non payment of a phone bill at about 6 am. I had paid by cheque but they insisted it hadn't ever arrived. It was the one and only time I've ever seen a bailiff and it also happened to be the first time that a new partner had stayed over. I was beyond mortified.

Can't understand why - they're not, and the frequently point out that the understand that their arrival unannounced causes major upset, which often manifests itself as hostility.

If a case gets moved to the High Court and Sheriff Officers are engaged things can and do move very quickly catching people who thought they had more time unawares.
