I had to cancel my last one.

Will I be able to use the Contactless if I don't have my PIN number?

I don't want to transfer it into my other account as I have loads of bills due to come out this week and don't want the cash to get caught up in there.

No. You have to activate it by using the pin (Nationwide anyway)
You have to with Nationwide so it must depend on your bank.

Danny - You only need the pin for the first time you use a new card. It's contactless after that.
Your first transaction always requires you to enter your pin.
I think danny misunderstands your question....you don't need a PIN once your card has been used once/activated....but the cards I have/OH has have all needed the PIN to activate them in the first instance.
Sorry, I have one but have never used it.I stand corrected.
I think it dependose as well

I would ring the bank and discuss the cash flow thingey with them - so long as you can cover them they should be quite helpful - they dont want to refuse payment when there are funds available - ( as they may incur liability if they do that ) *

( slipped off paypal and onto a waiting phishing site which took £30 off me sharpish- a bit like the sites that hi-jack us here)

* by refusing payment they are saying your credit isnt good when it is
...it's a simple security measure. By needing the PIN for the very first transaction on the new card, the bank is ensuring (as far as possible) that the card is in the posession of the intended account holder.
oh god when clearing the house of a fled tenant

I found credit card letters without the credit cards and had to write to all the card holders and tell them to cancel......nightmare.

yes the one who fled back to her father who was later heard to comment: "I am a Protestant minister - not a Roman Catholic saint"
^^^^grrr...I knew it was two double esses in "possession"....
I recently lost my purse and cancelled the cards as his was contactless, mine wasn't. Because I was cancelling someone elses we had to go to the bank in person to order new ones. The first she asked me was did I know my pin.

I'm with RBS.

Thank you all. I'll either have to hoof it to the bank and take it out or transfer until I can use the pin to activate it.

Typical really. I need to get stuff before I go away next week and there is money there and I don't have the card for that account and it's a hassle to transfer it etc. Sod's law I'll just have to bite the bullet.
// The first she asked me was did I know my pin.//

it is a trick !
the idea is for you to volunteer - "yes I do and I'm not telling you!"
as the CORRECT answer

I had one say on the phone " and you told me that you had given your pin out ?"
I began my tirade with "no I did not - you are putting words into my mouth again - are you recording this conversation ? "
[she did apologise and I did not say 'I know what you are doing']
Bank cards are such a pain.

I've just changed my accounts to my new married name and got a whole new bunch of cards with my maiden name on. What a palavar.
it is lawful to use them NoM
as there is no intention to mislead....

[ civil partners usually opt to keep their usual names]
OK you er not civilly partnered but you know what I mean
