A Friend Needs Money For Her Art Project, Any Ideas What To Do?
5 Answers
Hi everyone! A friend of mine is trying to organize and exhibition of foreign artists, but alas - no funding. The state doesn't support the project because it is too small. And all she needs is around $2,500.
She has created a promo video, but what's next? She already uploaded it everywhere, wrote to many people and organizations and yet - nothing.
How does that work and is it possible at all to raise money for such a thing?
Thanks to all that will reply to my message!

This site is UK-based and, as much as we like to help people from all over the world with their problems, it's unlikely that there will be anyone here with knowledge of how arts funding works in the USA.
So you might have a better chance of getting a meaningful answer on a US -based website, such as Quora:

This site though seems to suggest that it might be worth seeking funding at a more local level:

(For example, in Houston most of the funding available for the arts comes from the City of Houston itself, with very little coming from the state of Texas).
However if you're living a country where the President has proposed getting rid of both the National Endowment for the Arts and of the National Endowment for Humanities (as DT has done) you might be fighting an uphill battle to find funding.
Perhaps getting commercial art galleries on board might be a way forwards?

She could try to crowd fund it, get a celebrity on board as a figurehead and / or patron or get someone to endorse it very publicly. Best crowdfunding site is www.gofundme.com but crowd funding arts related projects is a very over subscribed area, so her pitch will need to be excellent as it's quite hard now.
A lot of such projects in the USA (& in the UK) use this site
