I know someone who has received a message supposedly from PayPal saying that her browser will soon not be supported unless updated. Some links are provided in the e-mail, to be used a) to check the connection to PayPal and b) to update, etc. the browser. The sender appears as [email protected]. Is anyone familiar with anything like this being legitimate or else a scam ?
it does sound like a scam, but when I recently had an email from paypal asking me to fix a password for my account - which I don't have - I rang them to ask, and they said they had sent it, though nobody knew why. I'm still getting them.
really? When I first tried to sign up it was as mildredsmith, but I was told that was taken, so I tried mildred.smith; it wouldn't have occurred to me to insert the dot otherwise. That was yonks ago when admission was only with an invitation, so it could well have changed in the last 12 years or so, of course.
Yes, mildredsmith owns all dotted variants of that name on Gmail.
You can also use a + suffix to spot where spam has originated e.g. give your address as [email protected] when you contact AB Towers and if it is used by AN Other you know the culprit.
It is true. PayPal will not be able to be used unless your browser is supported. The cut off date is 30th June. I have just checked and mine is ok.There is a link to click & check if your browser is supported. You need to check each browser you use (if you use more than one)

You DO need to do it,all part of the new information security system that is being rolled out.
Scam paypal messages are very common. I get them quite frequently.
They have an e-mail address which johnk listed above to which you can forward any suspicious e-mail. In my experience they always get back to you within a few days. Just forward it there and delete it. If you opened it by accident or you weren't paying attention, do a quick virus scan and/or malware scan.
