Is It Safer To Use A Credit Card Rather Than A Debit Card For On-Line Purchases?

I was thinking if fraud happened a credit card's using a banks money while the debit cards using your own.

I read in a financial section some while ago that it is much better to use a credit card and changed immediately. Took out a card for internet use only and linked it to my NOT online bank account ( which is also for internet use only, so never has much in it) so it is paid off in full every month. You get better protection for purchases made by credit card. This is my only credit card, so no problems there.

You are automatically protected for purchases over £100 with a credit card.

The system for reporting and making a fraud claim are the same for both cards. However as said earlier if you use a credit card you have extra protection against faulty goods costing over £100 with a credit card

The reason it is safer to use a credit card is that the banks have to authorize any company that wants to let you pay by credit card.
And if that company goes bankrupt or commits fraud on your card it is the bank that takes the 'hit' because they were the ones who authorised the company to use their credit card.

There is also an upper limit. It used to be £30000 but it's 20 years since I studied Consumer Law so it may well now be higher.

S75 upper limit appears to have remained at £30,000.

Thank you for that. Strange that the limits have not kept in line with inflation over the years.
