Took out a card for internet use only and linked it to my NOT online bank account ( which is also for internet use only, so never has much in it) so it is paid off in full every month. You get better protection for purchases made by credit card. This is my only credit card, so no problems there.
The reason it is safer to use a credit card is that the banks have to authorize any company that wants to let you pay by credit card.
And if that company goes bankrupt or commits fraud on your card it is the bank that takes the 'hit' because they were the ones who authorised the company to use their credit card.
