Fact Or Fiction.
Replied to a PPI company and was sent a form to fill in re. mortgages, loans etc.
Signed a form with the company of agreement to act on my behalf.
Four months later, £850 was paid into my bank account.
4 months later company phones and wants their fee.
I refuse saying that i have never had a bill of completion and the amount paid into my bank was the amount after their fees were deducted.
They deny this.
Is this a scam?

Advise them that you won't be paying a single penny until you have received, from them, proper notification of the company from which they successfully obtained a PPI refund, the amount they reclaimed and their fee for having done so.

When you DIY it, the money comes straight to you minus tax, which goes to HMRC. It’s usually paid by cheque. The letter from the mortgage/loan provider then states that if you have signed up with a claims company it says you, have to sort that out yourself.
The letter should give you a breakdown of how the amount was made up.
If the money just appeared in your bank account with no written notice, did you give your bank details to the PPI company? If you did, it sounds like they have already taken their “outrageous” cut.

chrissa...I can't remember if i gave them my bank details or not as it was way back in April of this year. I assumed that the refund was paid into my account net, after the company taking their share.
However i have checked and a company called Tate Camden is the Insurance company used by Barclays to pay and deal with the PPI's
I have researched on the net and there a a couple of forums on this company where people have suddenly found money paid into their accounts from this company which Barclays have authenticated.
No mention of fees though.
They are now contacting me by phone re. payment of fees.
I think that i will take the advice of JTH and see what transpires.

It sounds very much like a scam. Not saying it is, but it sounds like it. Here's why:
> 4 months later company phones and wants their fee.
1) They phoned? They didn't send a bill in the post? Or even email it? They didn't send a bill at all?
2) Four months? They haven't thought to ask before now?
3) They haven't supplied a single shred of evidence of who they got a refund from or how much?
4) (Given what chrissa wrote, they may not be able to do the following - so I've put it fourth). They didn't do the obvious thing of deducting their fee before paying you the rest, instead giving themselves the onerous task of chasing you for it months later?
> Signed a form with the company of agreement to act on my behalf
I would go back to the form and read it very carefully to see how well what they said would happen (their contract with you) matches what's happening now. For example, if the contract says they will provide evidence, they will deduct their fees before paying you and they will send you a bill (stamped paid) as evidence, and none of that is happening now, then you'd need to be very suspicious.

Elipsis/Qizmonger.
I did n't query the amount as i was expeting that amount in PPI refund.
Sorry to have taken so long, but i have been on the phone to the Leeds company that was handling my claim. Apparently the whole thing has been a misunderstanding and it has been sorted.
Somewhere along the line..Tate Camden seems to have taken over from Leeds PPI.....don't ask.
Thanks for all your help.
