It's important not to confuse Bitcoin with sites such as Bitcoin Trader. Investing in Bitcoins is a sound enough idea if you don't mind taking risks but Bitcoin Trader is a scam and you'll lose all your money there.

Investments in Bitcoins can see rapid profits but, equally, the value of your investment might be halved overnight. There are lots of other virtual currencies and the best gains are often to be made by getting in on the ground floor of new products.

If I'd got a few thousand pounds to play with (where it wouldn't matter too much if lost most of it) I'd definitely be putting it into virtual currencies but I don't want to risk the small amount of money that I have.
