Friend of mine got over billed by 4k on a energy bill. His supplier didn't even flag it up, he only found out when they took a a large d debit payment.
Obviously such a bill caused him a lot of stress.
His energy supplier has offered him £75 compensation final offer (compensation which he had to request).I believe £100 is most he could get ? Or worth pursuing it with Ombudsman given the excessive overbilling?
That would be why the direct debit was set up, for the convenience of all, paperless billing, saving the planet one sheet at a time. Companies are supposed to know what they're doing when trusted with these transactions and should pay when they fork up. Might help them sharpen up their act.
Personally, I’d accept the £75 as long as he hasn’t accrued more costs through phone calls, overdraft payments or anything like that. Fighting for a bit more would just cause more stress.

Didn't your friend notice that he/she had paid nothing for their energy for what must have been a few years? Or are you saying the £4,000 was completely, wildly wrong?
Was he not notified of the direct debit change in advance? I know I am. I think it's required unde rthe DD guarantee.
Did this hige bill result from (a) a supplier overestimate/misreading, (b) customer misreading, (c) there had been no bills for some time or (d) something else?
