If not working contactless, does it work if you use the PIN?
Try again using your pin. Most Banks have a random system where if you haven't used it with the pin for a while it will stop contactless until you do. It is a security feature to protect both you and the Bank.
Hi All,
I have had this problem with Nationwide and it was very annoying. I have manage to pay but after a completely OTT effort by staff and myself. Branch were trying to be helpful but didn't have an answer.
I also get silly letters saying they cannot contact me by text or email - but I get both! I have seen that the problem could be with the readers in the store and the software within. But really silly situation. One helpful thing ASDA were able to do was freeze the payment for me to get the cash and pay at customer services. But it added time to my journey. Just one of those things.

I did'nt think to use pin! Shops prefer contactless at the moment, will try pin tomorrow, thanks.

Just googled it, five times without pin will not work, banks better change that rule as well as the limit increase.
I always used contactless (certainly many more than 5 times in a row) and mine still works
Hi, djtdjt
Yes that is another thing I encountered, the contactless doesn't go then the reader screen display has please enter PIN, if the PIN doesn't work then please SWIPE card. If you swipe the card the assistant will ask for the card and give you a receipt to sign. That has happened several times in different stores. I had my card changed but the problem continues. But not so much.
I'm sure I've used mines (HSBC) more than five times in a row without needing a PIN.

I'll keep an eye on that.
There is no set number of transactions you can make without using your pin. As I said at 10.35, Banks have a random system which they use to confirm that you have your card in your possession .
