Medical Expenses

My sister has a son who is 4 who has a blood disorder that requires a monthly blood transfusion which isn't done at her local hospital but at a big General hospital 65 miles away. She is a single parent and doesn't drive so has to rely on someone to drive them to the hospital or get a train and then a taxi from the station to the hospital. My question is, does anyone know if there is anything like a Government/NHS benefit which would cover her travelling costs to and from the hospital? Her local hospital referred them to a specialist at this hospital so they have no choice but to travel to see him so I just wondered if there was anything available.
