However, both Barclaycard and American Express said they were unable to meet my request, all cards were contactless and no possibility of anything else. Then, when it came to expiry/renewal of one debit card the result was automatic supply of contactless. Disappointing. An assurance from the two credit cards that I could trust their anti-fraud policy and protection is not as good as a card that won't ever permit/generate this particular fraud. We don't have any use for contactless over non-contactless.
I've had my used fraudulently (cloned or however they did it) to make fraudulent transactions hundreds of miles away in places I'd never been on 3 occasions. Only once was it a contactless card and even then it was well over the limit (it was in a sports bar). So I'm not sure contactless are any more risky. And in every case I got the money back but it was a bit of hassle. Fortunately i check through my statements so would pick anything unrecognised up. Contactless has been very handy during Covid as I don't need to touch keypads and shops now seem to accept cards even for transactions under a £1 which is good as I don't carry cash now
