Received recently my replacement debit bank account card .
The old one does not expire yet

I have got direct payments to AN Other on my account ( not talking about direct debits / standing orders ) so I will have to inform the various companies of the change to the long number on the card

My question is , will payments still be able to be made , with the old long number , (given that card has not expired yet ) untill I get round to contacting the companies ?

Are you sure that number has changed??
Any payments will coincide with the card number of the card used at purchase.
I don't see why the current card should not work if it's not expired; after all, they don't know that you've received your new one. Any payments you have already made with it have been guaranteed by the bank, so can't be refused.
TC, when my last card was replaced it had a new long number.
teacake - we received our new Nationwide debit cards yesterday and they made a point of telling us the number had changed as part of their anti-fraud campaign.
I was just asking because all the replacements I've had in the past have been the same, but obviously things have changed since by the looks of things.
Just wait and see if payments continue. I suspect they probably will.

If not, the payees will be pretty quick to tell you.
As far as I know yes until the cad expires. If the old card cannot be used your payment will be denied when you make payment. This happened to and I just pu in the new long number
