If I were an OAP and had 10.00 to waste, I would probably ask to draw it out in pennies, then go over to a bank, spend ages opening up an account and then even longer counting out the pennies to make a deposit.

The following day I would then repeat this action using a different bank.

If you were an OAP you might struggle to carry 10 in 1p coins - they weigh about 8 pounds (3.6 kilos).

You might as well squander it all at once. It's really outlived its purpose. The fuel allowance has to all intents and purposes replaced it.

Buy them a thank you card and a huuuuuge bunch of flowers - that'll swallow up the tenner.
Be grateful for getting something for nothing? ;-)

Stevie21 am I supposed to launch into my moaning old git tirade of "during the war " stories and tell you that we could go to the cinema, have a slap up meal for two and a taxi home and still have change out of half a crown. No I will spare you that because it was never true in the '40's No I am not ungrateful at all just still puzzled about it. I will be giving it to the Dogs Home as they gave me a wonderful Jack Russell terrier 2 years ago worth more than a years pension.
Good reply - I like it!!
The wee "wink" at the end of my first reply was supposed to indicate that I was pulling your leg.

Stevie21 Yes I understood your wink. No offence was taken. Gave me a laugh. Only just qualified as an OAP

I would also have enjoyed you saying "you moaning old gits are you lot never happy with anything all you do is get in the way down the post office queue when you draw your pension and then give it all back buying a gas stamp...a telephone stamp....a TV licence stamp...and I must pay my catalogue Oh and some of those lovely first class christmas stamps not the ugly looking second class stamps..oh and how is your Jenny getting on at university...did she...well I never...Oh can you give me some change for a ten pound note so I can pay my paper bill...etc..etc.. (you could strangle them !!)

I live in a small village, one queue and have been through this for years. (Decided to have it paid in the bank, might change my mind though and inflict it on you young 'uns !)

Count it and make sure it is correct!
tellboy - that's infinitely funnier than my attempt at a joke. I'm proud of you!!
why not add 2 and get 12 scatch cards and have one for each of the twelve days of christmas,
Bottle of vodka, bottle of Coke, some peanuts and crisps............enjoy!
As a recently qualified pensioner I was over the moon to receive the 10 Christmas box. My partner who has not yet retired only gets a turkey from his company at Christmas so this year we can buy a decent bottle of wine to go with it and make a toast to receiving something for nothing. Cheers !!!
