cashing a cheque

If a cheque is given to me made out to 'cash' instead of my name, is it correct that a bank will cash it immediately for me? Need an answer really soon if you can help! Thanks guys!

Should do - possibly only the branch on which is drawn though.

I don't think a bank will do this anymore - hence the "ac payee" cross on a cheque.

Sorry, don't know for definite, but would be very wary of taking a cheque made out to cash

don't worry, it's nothing dodgy. It's a cheque from my employers for some expenses but they agreed to put cash instead of my name as I am in great need of the money before the weekend and a cheque won't clear in time.

If you go to the bank on which the cheque is drawn, and the cheque is NOT CROSSED - OR the standard crossing has written on it "please pay cash" - and signed by a signatory, no problem.

You could ask the drawer of the cheque to ask the account holding bank to cash it. The more important the drawer the more likely the bank is to cooperate!
