I'm asking my bank to keep to the £45 limit.
I saw a notice about that in Aldi earlier this week. It's a bit of a worry.
I'll be keeping my card as safe as i have always done. By which i mean i keep it with me throughout the day in my wallet and it stays in my bedroom overnight.
I am due a new card end of month. I dont want contactless. Sander have tol d me i can turn it off on sander app
Pasta, it's only "a bit of a worry" if you're prone to losing things. I honestly cannot remember the last time i lost anything from my person - not even my comb.
^The banks have different ideas about what you can/can't do yourself about contactless limits.
I've an Ulsterbank card. I'm going to try and copy Jennyjoan and have the contactless bit turned off.
Madness, and totally unnecessary. Are people really too inconvenienced to have to enter their PIN for purchases of over £45?
With the new limit the card can be used 3 times before you're asked for your PIN, so if lost or stolen, that's £300 gone pretty damn soon.
I'll keep them as safe as I used to keep my wage packet on the way home from work on a Friday.
I am really not concerned about the new limit.
I didn't realise the card could only be used three times.Currently I've used mine a lot more than that contactlessly before being asked for the PIN.

I posted just to raise awareness of the effective date.

Of course we can arrange lower limits with our banks/building societies.

So have I, Jack.
personally i dont understand the general concern.
when im in a shop my card is in my hadnbag. I have NEVER had my handbag stolen, or my purse, and i wonder if those who are concerned ever have? if so i can understand it slightly more, or situations like travelling, but just general shopping? It seems it's a lot of fuss about not much

I don't think one has to be prone to losing items but a momentary distraction at the checkout can make folk forget to take their card out of the machine. I realised that when I snatched a card an old(er) lady had left behind and hoofed it to catch her up before she left the Co-op. She looked so surprised, bless her.
lol choux, if only she'd been using contactles it wouldnt have been in the machine in the first place
I think it was five or six times till today, jack. I found this out as I was doing supermarket shopping for my neighbour during Covid and using her contactless card. Then on one trip it wouldn't go through and I was asked to put in the PIN, which of course I didn't know. Had to ring her from the Tesco helpdesk!

With £300 up for grabs I wouldn't be surprised if opportunistic thieves took advantage of the vulnerable, for instance.

I trust that those who have replied as "invincible" never have cause to regret the moment ;)
I returned my card to the bank and they sent me a new one without the contactless on it - Nat West. The woman in the bank said I could not have a card without the contactless - so I rang HQ and had the new card in a few days. A lot less worry for me.
I had my wallet taken from my 'manbag' on the Paris metro by a gang of teenage girls who mobbed and distracted me in the rush hour. They managed to unzip and rezip my bag!
I reported it by phoning Credit Agricole from the Eurostar train within 30 mins. They stopped my card and refunded me the 50 euros that had been taken via contactless. The 60 euros cash and all my other cards were lost, but replaced promptly in the UK (driving licence, Health card, library card, loyalty cards etc.)
They also issued my new card with contactless disabled (at my request).
These things can happen!

bednobs, no "lol" about it. If her shopping bill exceeded the then maximum she had to use the machine. That doesn't mean to say she hadn't a contactless limit does it?
