For anyone who may have been following the saga of my several unsuccessful attempts to watch The Office and find something worth watching in it, having determined to try again I’ve re-visited the first few episodes….. and guess what? Eureka! By Jove I think she’s got it! I chuckled a lot and actually laughed out loud at one bit in particular - David Brent trying to get dates and using a picture of hunky Peter Andre as an image of himself.

Loving RG’s other offerings - Extras, Derek, and Afterlife, I don’t think I had my brain in RG mode for this one - so thanks for the encouragement. I’ve no doubt now that I shall enjoy the rest of the series.

For me, Brent is the perfect grotesque character - equally hyper-sensitive to his own many neurosis, and equally crashingly unaware of the feelings of anyone else.

But the real depth of Brent is that he really just wants to be liked, and that's something that touches a chord in all of us.

When I first watched it, when it was first broadcast, I knew i was going to love it forever, and I have.

Having worked for managers exactly like Brent, and some even worse, I identified entirely with Tim, who spent so much of his time wordlessly catching the eye of the camera as if to say, are you getting this? And yes, it really is like this here.

How odd this should come up.
I never really watched it the first time round, nor any of the repeats, largely because I don't really watch much TV, but I have just watched the whole lot (Xmas episode pt 2 pending, which I have probably already seen)
It is sublime stuff: my favourite possible the scene where Brent is made redundant, and grumpily arises from his desk wearing his comedy Red Nose Day outfit of a huge yellow emu dangling about his waist.

Not at all. I think I've watched it out of sequence anyway. I first watched what was labelled 'Part 1' - I think - and then 'Part 2' - those episodes included the Christmas Party - but I think that must have been a special. I've now started on number 1 of a list of episodes and he seems to have been made redundant. I've no idea of the running order of it all. Not to worry. It'll come together in my head one way or another... eventually. :o)

BBC, tigger. I think the ordinary episodes are in order .... I just happened upon the wrong two first not realising that they were separate... and way into the story.

We all have different tastes, Emmie. I could never get into The Sopranos or Fraser despite trying the first episodes. Both were a 'no' from me.

i really don't like RG, come what may, i have seen him on the odd occasion on talk shows, or hosting a show, but he doesn't float my boat at all.
