I work as a temp in an office and my boss has asked me to do over time. Thing is she sometimes forgets to pay me or underpays. I do like her, but she's haphazard with 'finalising' my hours each week and I have to wait another week for my money, some weeks. I think it's a cheek to ask me to do overtime due to this reason as I wonder if she'll forget to pay me for this overtime too. I know you’re probably thinking why am I sticking around when I have to wait so long for my correct pay when I can get another job, but I do like my job and the location is perfect for me.
I’ve just come back from a week’s leave, and it was my office colleague who told me that my boss is going to ask me if I can do overtime, so basically she filled me in.
I don’t think my boss should have told her first she's going ask me and I get to find out second. My boss has only asked me because there is so much typing to do and I’m the only temp around! I am heavily committed to my time outside of my work and I can’t commit to working over.
I just wondered if you thought it was wrong of my boss to let my colleague know she’ll be asking me and I get to hear it second hand? Plus, my boss asked me in front of everyone, and I just said, "I'll think about it".
I think you're over-thinking it! Your choice to do the O/T or not.
While you are away they might have been discussing how busy they were and the boss mentioned she might ask you to do O/T when you came back. No big deal.
