It's that time of the year again when, in 2 days hence, millions of once-a-year punters will be invading betting shops, up and down the country, holding up the queue at the counter by getting the shop manager to help them write their betting slips out - leaving seasoned punters disgruntled 'cos they can't get to the counter to get their 'dog' bets on. And, of course, once the greyhounds have run their race, those disgruntled punters will screw their slips up in disgust, muttering how they would have been on the winner :-/

The Aintree meeting provides 5 of today's ITV7 races (first leg 2.20) with Taunting making up the numbers.

3.55 New; Ron O @ 5/1 - 4 places
4.05 Ain; Latenightpass @ 5/1 - 6 places
4.40 Ain; Douglas Talking @ 4/1 - 5 places
5.40 New; Jems Bond @ 4/1 - 4 places

Win singles, 20p L 15 (and 35p e.w. acca - bit of shrapnel in my 365 account), £1 e.w. acca (Sky for the extra places). 4 placed = poss £30, 4 winners = poss £1,653.

Willy Hill offering EVENS on Constitution Hill (but only to a £5 max stake) so i've had a pop.

ITV7; above qualifiers plus; Zenta, Mardoof, Shishkin and Dancingontheedge. Too many 'shorties' for an e.w. bet so just done a £1 acca.

Probably have another look later to see if there's a decent e.w. punt in the Foxhunters, a race which has thrown up a few surprise winners in the last dozen or so years - Silver Adonis @ 50s, Tartan Snow @ 66/1 and Cousin Pascal (runs in today's race) @ 100/1.

Best of luck, all:-)

The last time I went in the bookies it was desolate. Just a couple a tired-eyed chaps staring at the screens.

I don't see that Ken - the bet is CH to win by MORE THAN 12 Lengths, was EVENS now 2/1. Straight win is 1/10.

Also done a Trixie and Treble on, Shishkin, Dancingontheedge and Seeyouinmydreams for a poss £160 return.

Question Author
Drmorgans; i'll wager it wasn't the day of the Grand National when you last visited a bookies:-)

Davedbro; the offer may have been withdrawn. At the time i put the bet on, the horse was 1/6 - it has now shortened considerably @ 1/10!!. I've just checked and my bet still stands :-)
From seeing your list I'm tempted to do a Tony Soprano and put it all on the 4:40.

Meadow Gold did so well for him. :-)
Question Author
You could do a lot worse, Doug :-)
Afternoon Ken. I've done my usual 50p e/w at Aintree.
4.05 Matts Commission 100/1
4.40 Dads Lad 18/1
5.15 Lunar Discovery 40/1.
Good luck.
its a bit late this year, isnt it?
Question Author
Bednobs, it is usually held in the first or second week in April. So, in effect, the 15th is the 'beginning' of the 3rd week. In that respect, it is the latest the GN has ever been held.

Once again, Aintree provides 5 of the ITV7 races (first leg 2.20) with Leicester and Sedgefield making up the numbers.
The National would have been last Saturday had it not been Easter. Easter of course is set by the Lunar cycle and varies. The National has to swerve to miss it occasionally. Didn't bother yesterday Ken was busy. Having a go today though and have done the ITV& split into ****E/W Acca, Trebles & Doubles. ###Win Trixie. BOG with 365. Good luck everyone.

No Ordinary Joe @10/1 2.20A*
Timeless Melody @4/1 2.35L#
Road Warrior @3/1 2.45S#
Rubaud @50/1 2.55A*
Pic D'orhy @3/1 3.30A#
Ashtown Lad @8/1 4.05A*
Apple Away @16/1 4.40A*
Question Author
The very best of luck with at least 2 of them, Togo :-)))

2.20 Ain; No Ordinary Joe @ 10/1 - 7 places
2.55 Ain; Luccia @ 9/2
3.55 Sed; Zara's Universe @ 9/2
4.05 Ain; Ashtown Lad @ 8/1 - 7 places

Win singles*, 20p L15 and £1 e.w. acca. 4 placed = poss £23, 4 winners (hahahahahaha) = poss £3,217.

*Done the usual 4 x £5 win singles, but the one on No Ordinary Joe is with WHill as i 'won' a 'double your price' boost on 'Scratch Of The Day".

Also done the placepot (3.4.14.1.10.13) and an e.w. punt on Densworth @ 16/1 (7 places) in the 5.15.

ITV7; above qualifiers plus Timeless Melody, Fulgurix, Fakir D'Oudaries and Stay Away Fay. £1 e.w. acca.

Best of luck, all :-))
Question Author
Ought to point out that Willy Hill's price for NOJ is only 17/2, so i have it at 17/1.
Question Author
Forgot to add, in the case of the 4.05, both Ashtown Lad and Al Dancer were almost inseparable as regards the stats. Almost chose the CD winner Al Dancer, but the longest any previous winner of this race has been off the track is 90 days - Al Dancer has been absent for 160. But, i have done the rev f/c the pair.

Also, because we have a habit of 1st and 2nd between our selections, Togo - and also because it's a 'mug's forecast' - i've put our 4.40 Selections in a rev f/c :-))
Question Author
Did a 50p Patent, £1 e.w. treble on Timeless Melody (won @ 6s) and Fulgurix (won @ 4s), waiting for Stay Away Fay in the 4.40 Aintree. Stand to win £155 for the patent (365 offering me £45 to cash-out) and £200 for the e.w. treble (cash-out offer £35). Was expecting more, to be honest given that Stay Away Fay is from a top stable and quite well fancied:-(
Think i'll wait to see if they improve their offers nearer the off-time.
Question Author
Cashed out the £45, stuck a fiver on Stay Away Fay and let the £1 e.w. bet run. Received £7.53 for the e.w.
Well done with the winner, Togo - just a pity mine couldn't keep 2nd:-(
If Soul Icon obliges I am looking good here Ken. Already about £80 up. Very welcome. "She who must be obeyed" invited me to lunch today, drove me home, and managed to get me to pay. :))
Also just recieved £16.80 for a 5p 4 timer and £2.50 for 5p 5timer place win with Skybet. Nice . Gives me a ton up for the day and a chance of a nice double. I will be sorry to see the end of this seasons NH racing. I have made a bob or two since the new year.
Ahh Soul Icon. :((

Neer mind. Try again tomorrow.
