Return on travellers cheques

I know how to order travellers cheques but can anyone tell me if any unused travellers cheques can be changed back to sterling? Never used them before so I dont know the first thing about them.

yes they can be changed back to sterling if you dont use them all,the place where you got them usually take them back commision free if they have that facility,check that out first,it will save a few pounds,have a good trip.

I got some recently from the Post Office and they do change back any unused ones, commission free, as long as you have the original receipt.

Depending on where you are going to use them and whether you are taking them out in a foreign currency, you should consider taking only a small amount of cash for immediate outlays (in my opinion necessary in any case), then rely on a debit or credit card such as Visa for everything else. Travellers cheques issued in a foreign currency will not be returnable to exactly the same value as you paid because the exchange rate may have altered - either against you or in your favour.

As a matter of interest, the country where I live has just issued an officiel communique stating that the government will no longer issue travellers cheques in local currency, (existing will be honoured) due to the fact that most transactions are now ''plastic'' anyway.
